Ariana Grande has officially been named Billboard’s Woman of the Year. And damn, does she deserve it. With the success of her fourth studio album Sweetener, the announcement of upcoming tour and Saturday’s single release of “Thank u, next”, Ariana has BEEN THRU IT and come out the other side ‘successful’ (Do you see what I did there?).
Grande’s Billboard award stems from both her professional and personal life.
Three of her albums have reached #1 on Billboard charts. Her first two singles “No Tears Left to Cry” and “God is a woman” made history as the largest streaming week by a female artist from a pop album.

Personally, Grande continues to use her influence and social media platform to shed awareness on various topics— from Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ rights, to participating in the Women’s March and speaking out about mental health. She has never backed down from speaking her truth.
She recently broke off her quick and very public engagement to SNL’s Pete Davidson last month. Just as public came the passing of her ex boyfriend rapper and producer Mac Miller the month before. No woman could forget how Grande was was inappropriately touched on stage by the presenting pastor at the funeral of her icon Aretha Franklin. And just last year Grande created a benefit concert ‘One Love Manchester’ which raised $23 million to support those affected at the Manchester Arena bombing outside her concert.

With her latest single “Thank u, next,” Grande introduces us to a new life phase. An empowering anthem to accompany her new chapter, she is thankful for her past for creating who she is now, but she’s ready to let go and grow. There is no other musician more deserving of this award than Ariana.

This is Billboards 13th year honoring trailblazing women in the music industry. Previous honored musicians include Lady Gaga, Madonna and Taylor Swift. The Women in Music event will air live on Twitter December 6 starting at 7pm EST.
