Did the Grammys finally celebrate female artists?

As a response to their lack of female appreciation last year, the Grammys kicked off their 61st Award show with host and 15 time Grammy award winner Alicia Keys . But is a female host enough to make up for the Academy’s President basically saying that female musicians just aren’t good enough?

After 60 years, the Grammys has continuously been dominated by men even though the billboard and chart topping singles may suggest otherwise. According the Glamour, since 1959 women have only counted for 21% of the Grammy's nominees and only 23% of actual Grammy winners across the field.

Even with a P O W E R squad of the women above to discuss the influence music has to unite us all, how did the Grammy's measure up this year when it comes to female artists?:

The winner for Album of the Year went to Kacey Musgraves for "Golden Hour"

The winner for Best New Artist went to Dua Lipa.

The winner for Best Rap Album went to Cardi B for "Invasion of Privacy." This became a historic moment, as Cardi is the first female solo artist to win the category.

The winner for Best Pop Vocal Album (with all the nominees being women excluding Shawn Mendes), went to Ariana Grande for SWEETENER.

With other female wins from H.E.R., Beyonce with The Carters, Lady Gaga and more, tonight proved that female artists didn't need to "step up" at all, the Grammys just needed to listen.

PERIODT.
