Los Angeles hosted the Women in Film gala Wednesday night honoring the strides women in various entertainment roles are taking to break down gender barriers in the industry. Amy Poehler and Viola Davis were some celebrities in attendance. One of the most memorable moments of the night came from creator, writer and actress of Insecure and ColorCreative chief Issa Rae.
Rae became the first winner of WIF ‘Emerging Entrepreneur’ award, and her speech is a reminder of why women no longer need to be humble about their hard earned accomplishments. She gives a hilarious and unapologetic take on the restraints women experience in the professional world that men are not subject to. Her words are something to admire as women are now beginning to be awarded for the same tasks as their male counterparts were celebrated for years before them.
"I'm the first, so you future hoes need to bow down. I'm closing all doors behind me, so if you didn't make it in, oops, your bad! You're out!" Just one of the incredibly clever and deserving remarks from the award winner. Watch the entire speech below.
