Another tone deaf, culturally appropriated fashion collection from Western fashion designers. Dior and Jennifer Lawrence have rightfully come under fire for their latest fashion campaign.

Their latest collection features handbags that are designed in the style of escaramuza horseback riders, but with a “modern” Dior edge. Though “inspired” by female Mexican riders, the ad did not... include... one... Mexican... woman.
Also, 'modern' ? LOL Okay girl. Is “modern” slang for cultural appropriation??? Dior did provide this scant historical reference of the escaramuzas on their website; however it is still not enough.
Peep the ad here:

“I can’t think of a better landscape to highlight this collection”
REALLY? IT’S CALLED MEXICO. WHERE YA’LL GOT YOUR” INSPIRATION” FROM.
Listen, we all love J.Law. She’s hilarious, she’s talented. She’s that drunk friend who would hold your hair if you ever needed to puke in the toilet. But Dior, you’re REALLY telling everyone that you could not find a Mexican actress or model to be the face of this campaign to add some authenticity to it? I mean, I know Salma Hayek is married to a French billionaire and Eva Longoria is booked and busy like the Queen that she is, but seriously--- you couldn’t use a Mexican actress to represent your Mexican inspired line? Of course you could have. You just decided not to.
So why does Dior and so many other high fashion labels continue to miss the mark?
Well it’s because their boardrooms and creators are most likely white people. This is not to say white people cannot be woke, because some of them are WOKE AF, bless them. But diversity in front of the camera begins with diversity behind it.
