Trump Calling the Coronavirus the “Chinese Virus” Was Intentional

On Monday evening, Trump tweeted what should have been Presidential words of encouragement during these uncertain times-- but unsurprisingly, was covered in racist rhetoric.

Don’t be mistaken. Trump calling the coronavirus the “Chinese virus” is absolutely intentional. He knows that by deferring this health pandemic as the sole consequence of one ethnic group will distract us from the core issue— America’s failing healthcare system. A system that favors chaos and corporate greed over a functional and fruitful operation. An operation that invests in our medical advancements to predict the next outbreak through preventative measures, not just responsive delay. A system our President has absolutely zero intentions to fix.

Trump continues to remind us that he is first and foremost a businessman. Boasting about his ability to stabilize the stock market, this level of enthusiasm is not maintained when discussing the CDC and Trump's choice to disband the NSC pandemic team.

While the world is trending his latest racist tweets (with comebacks that are equal parts hilarious and equal parts 100% accurate), we are being distracted by the Trump administration’s inaction. While it’s hard to hear, all we can do is wait. What we MUST also do is not panic. We do not need to hoard anything. We do not need to bulk beyond our means. Everyone is unprepared during this circumstance by a fault not of our own.
