Reality star turned Lawyer for the people? Kim Kardashian West soon to be known as Kim Kardashian, Esquire visited the White House for the second time during Trump's Presidency. While she has been vocal about her opposition of Trump's administration and political moves, she has also used her status to help others.
The saying 'fight fire with fire' greatly applies here. Well in this case, it is more 'fight reality star with reality star' or 'fight most attention-grabbing with most attention-grabbing.' Either way you want to put a spin on the traditional idiom, it continues to work when concerning Trump and Kim Kardashian West. Perhaps it is an unspoken understanding between the two that their status was attained through different measures. Their power and influence was earned not through the traditional measures of schooling and political grooming, but through ratings and popularity contests. This modern power play is very telling of how our country rationalizes and the direction of how our politics will continue to evolve.
Thursday evening Kardashian attended the White House (looking chic af I might add) to announce a new ride share program for recently released inmates. Partnering with Lyft (the better, less problematic ride company imo), ex-cons will receive gift cards for free rides to job interviews, work and for visiting family. Though this may seem like a trivial situation for some, it may be the difference between post-prison success or system re-entry for these individuals. This can be one less stressor for them to better their lives and situations. "“The ultimate goal is everyone wants the community to be safe. And the more opportunity that they have, and the support we help give them, the safer everyone will be.” This program is one from the First Step Act, a prison reform legislation.
A fan of Kardashian-West or not, her actions have accomplished more with Trump than some political parties have. I stan someone who uses their platform to help better the lives of those around them.
