Why We Need More Women in Government

“BITCHES GET SHIT DONE” - a proverb.

This phrase is more relevant than ever this year when it comes to American government. Women have been taking over and nothing has made my feminist soul quiver with such empowered excitement. With the election of Trump and his vocal disrespect for women, (especially those in positions of authority)—- women have responded by becoming present than ever in demanding that we be heard instead of just seen. The Women’s March, #metoo movement are just some of the historic events of women representation, and these female wins in political runnings are also paving the way.

This week, Christine Hallquist became the first transgender woman to win the Vermont’s Governors Primary. Rashida Tlaib is the first Muslim woman to win Michigan's Primary and is expected to be the first elected to Congress.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the first Latina to win the New York Primary at just 28 years old. London Breed became San Francisco’s first black female mayor earlier this summer.

So what does having more women in leadership roles (especially WoC) mean for women? Well for one, it means we have someone in government who understands what we're going through... IDK about you guys, but I'm SICK AND TIRED of old white men over 55 years old deciding what I can do with my uterus. I bet $100 that none of them can even point out a fallopian tube on a diagram.

So here's what we can expect when us ladies *Beyonce voice* "get in formation."

• better healthcare

• better maternity leave

• ending the gender wage gap

• stronger rights and treatment of minorities

• fair immigration legislation, especially for those seeking aslyum or refugee due to domestic violence

And this is just the beginning. Hilary Clinton may have started the “I’m With Her” campaign—- but it’s continuing with women across the board. And nothing can stop us now.
